Arum italicum

A distinctive native British perennial, typically growing in shady woodlands and hedgerows. Arum italicum has arrow shaped leaves and pale green hooded spathes with a brown spadix in April to June. The flowers are followed by upright spikes of bright orange-red berries adding seasonal interest into autumn and providing food for rodents and birds. Arum italicum makes a good choice for shady borders and moist soils around the edges of a pond. Ultimate height: 50cm (20in). Ultimate spread: 30cm (12in).
