Albizia Julibrissin – Seeds
This is a beautiful tree highly valued for its delicate foliage and gorgeous puffs of pink flowers. Albizzia julibrissin has a mistaken reputation for being tender but is perfectly hardy in the U.K, although it is slow to leaf up in the summer and may suffer occasional light frost damage which can be easily pruned out. If you fancy trying to grow a tree from seed this has the advantage of being a fast grower and will flower in three years. Albizzia julibrissin has a handsome, broadly spreading canopy and mimosa-like leaves which slowly close during the night. In July to September, it is smothered in extraordinary flowers looking like fluffy clusters of pink silk threads. These are attractive to bees and butterflies. It can be grown as a tree with a single trunk or as a multi-stemmed shrub and is suitable for smaller gardens, thriving in a sunny, sheltered position. Maximum height and spread: 6m (19′).Caution: These seeds are poisonous.
