Bauhinia variegata is an unusual exotic tree most frequently grown as a multi-stemmed shrub. It has large leaves which are two lobed and resemble butterfly wings. From late winter to summer it bears stunning, bright pink, orchid-like flowers which are sweetly fragrant. These are followed by long, bean-like pods.Native to India and China this tender plant is ideal for growing in a conservatory or in a pot on a sunny patio which is brought into the greenhouse for winter.
