Elaeagnus ebbingei ‘Maryline’
This compact evergreen shrub is perfect for adding a splash of colour throughout the year and is particularly useful for challenging areas such as dry shade or heavy clay soils. Elaeagnus × submacrophylla ‘Maryline’ features variegated leaves, creamy-yellow in the centre with an irregular green edge and silvery undersides. The tiny white flowers which appear from September to November offer a nice surprise at a dull time of the year as despite their small size they emit a strong, sweet fragrance, attracting hosts of bees. Elaeagnus × submacrophylla ‘Maryline’ can be used as a background shrub for borders, an evergreen hedge or screen or as a single specimen in a container. It is drought-tolerant, coping with poor dry soils, shade, exposed sites and coastal positions. The foliage is an excellent filler for flower arrangements.
