Juncus ensifolius (Marginal Aquatic)
Juncus ensifolius, is a compact, moisture-loving perennial ideal for adding structure and texture to pond edges, bog gardens or damp borders. Its semi-evergreen to evergreen, linear foliage forms neat clumps, while clusters of small, deep brown flowers float on slender stems in late summer. These curious, spiky flower heads have lent it the common name of ‘flying hedgehogs’. Hardy and low maintenance, it provides excellent cover for wildlife and brings a naturalistic feel to any water or rain garden. Planting depth: 0-5cm. Height and spread: 30cm to 50cm (12 to 20in).
