Ligustrum delavayanum
A superb substitute for boxy topiary, this small-leaved privet is quick growing and will avoid all the problems of box moth caterpillar and box blight. Ligustrum delavayanum is a semi-evergreen shrub that copes well with regular trimming and can be trained into dense, topiary shapes with ease. It might lose some leaves in very cold conditions but will swiftly replace these in spring. A wonderful contemporary-looking focal point that looks very effective framing doorways. Once established, Ligustrum delavayanum tolerates drought making it a great choice for patio containers. Scented white blooms will appear in late spring which are followed by black berries in autumn. Regular trimming will decrease the production of flowers and berries.
