This majestic native is a familiar feature of wetlands across Britain. Phragmites australis produces tall stems of glossy foliage topped with feathery, purple flower heads. Commonly known as Common Reed or Norfolk Reed, this vigorous perennial grass offers valuable habitat for wildlife, and is often used in sewage treatment and for thatching roofs.
