Pittosporum tobira
An award-winning Japanese Mock Orange with glossy evergreen foliage and beautifully fragranced blooms. Pittosporum tobira is a slow-growing variety that gradually forms a rounded, medium shrub smothered in vibrant, leathery leaves held in distinctive whorls. Large umbels of small white flowers emerge in late spring and early summer, maturing to yellow and exuding a heady, honey-like perfume. Pittosporum tobira can be grown outdoors in a sheltered position in milder parts of the UK, happily growing in sun or shade, although it will produce more blooms in a sunny spot. A superb foundation shrub for a coastal garden or sheltered courtyard where it can be pruned into shape and even used as hedging. This half-hardy shrub can also be grown in a large patio pot and moved to a frost-free position during the winter. Maximum height: 4m (13ft). Spread: 2.5m (8ft).
