Thalia dealbata (Marginal Aquatic)

Commonly known as Powdery Alligator-Flag or Water Canna, Thalia dealbata is celebrated for its architectural presence and wonderful foliage. Its large, lance-shaped blue green leaves rise gracefully above the water on tall stems. The foliage is dusted in a white, powdery coating that not only gives the plant its powdery moniker but also adds a silvery sheen that enhances its visual appeal. In late summer, tall arching flower spikes emerge, bearing clusters of small, violet-purple flowers that rise above the foliage. Ideal for planting at the edges of ponds, in shallow water or up to 60 cm deep, Thalia dealbata is deciduous in the UK, dying back in winter and re-emerging in spring. An impressive choice for its sculptural foliage, bringing a lush, tropical ambiance to the water garden. Water depth: 10-60cm. Ultimate height: 1.5-2m (4.9 to 6.5ft) ). Ultimate spread: 50cm to 1.2m (20in to 4ft).
