Abutilon megapotamicum ‘Variegatum’
Dangling prettily on long stalks like lanterns, the flowers of Abutilon megapotamicum are unmistakable – with a puffy red calyx bursting into yellow petals from which protrude purple anthers. Abutilon megapotamicum ‘Variegatum’ goes one step further, combining the exotic flowers with gold-splashed foliage. This evergreen to semi-evergreen half-hardy shrub can be grown outside in mild, sheltered climates. Its long, arching branches are best trained against a warm and sunny wall. In colder areas, it can be grown permanently in a conservatory or planted into a container and brought outside for the summer months. Either way, Abutilon megapotamicum ‘Variegatum’ will reward with a long flowering season that stretches from late spring/early summer right through to the first frosts. RHS Award of Garden Merit.
