Schizostylis coccinea ‘Alba’ (Marginal Aquatic)
Although often regarded as border plants, Schizostylis thrive naturally in stream beds and perform exceptionally well as pond marginals or in bog gardens, offering a flamboyant display that few other pond plants can match. From August to November, tall, upright spikes bear up to a dozen starry white flowers with shining petals that open wide, glistening in the sunlight. The stiff flower spikes bring strong vertical interest above clumps of relaxed, linear foliage. While most pond plants bloom in spring, Schizostylis coccinea ‘Alba’ provides valuable late season colour that stretches to the onset of winter, making a superb choice for water gardens and moist borders alike. Ultimate height: 40cm (16in) to 60cm (24in). Ultimate spread: 30cm (12in).
