Lavander stoechas
Lavender stoechas is a very showy and distinctive form of lavender with a powerful fragrance.Fat, blackish-purple heads are crowned by erect, feather-like purple bracts. The flowers stand to attention above bushy mounds of silvery-green, strongly aromatic foliage – perfect for planting close to your favourite seating area. Regularly snip off the faded flower heads and you’ll be rewarded with a flowering season that stretches from May into October. Lavender stoechas is slightly less hardy than the more common English lavender, but it has a longer blooming season, the flowers are showier and the camphor-scent of its foliage is especially pungent, making it the favourite lavender for potpourri and essential oils. Lavender stoechas thrives in a sheltered, sunny spot and is perfect for patio container displays or as an edging plant in free-draining gravel gardens. The strong perfume is an irresistible lure for pollinating insects and it makes a great choice for butterfly gardens.
