Monarda ‘Elsies Lavender’

Monarda ‘Elsies Lavender’ is a classic cottage garden perennial bearing shaggy whorls of soft lavender flowers, each flower made up of multiple tubular florets. The unusual flowers are held on stiff, upright stems above clumps of soft, aromatic foliage. Monarda is famous for its ability to attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators throughout its long flowering period from July to September. The flowers make an excellent addition to bouquets and the citrus-scented leaves can be eaten in salads or dried and used to make pot pourri. Height: 90cm (35in) -120cm (47in). Spread: 45cm (18in). Culinary note: Use the dried leaves to make Bergamot tea or use the sweet, spicy flavoured petals to enhance salads, jellies, rice or pasta dishes.
