Physostegia virginiana ‘Crown Of Snow’

Small trumpet-shaped flowers like miniature snapdragons are carried all around erect flower spikes. Physostegia virginiana is a plant that deserves to be much more widely grown, as it offers prolific blooms carried over a long period from July to September, providing vertical accents to informal borders, attracting beneficial pollinators and providing plenty of blooms for long-lasting vase displays. The flowers are arranged along the flower spike in four vertical tiers and each individual flower is able to turn towards the sun. This curious feature is also the origin of its common name, the ‘Obedient Plant’: if you bend the flowers left or right, they obediently stay in position as though on a hinge.
