Sagittaria sagittifolia (Marginal Aquatic)

A pretty British native, Sagittaria sagittifolia, or Arrowhead, provides value to wildlife as well as dainty flowers later in the season when most pond plants have finished blooming.Attractive, arrow-shaped leaves rise above the waterline, whilst rounded leaves float on the surface, providing diverse habitats for aquatic life. From June to August, dainty sprays of three petalled flowers with purple centres are held on tall, leafless stems, attracting pollinators. As autumn approaches, Arrowhead retreats into its tuberous roots—known affectionately as “Duck Potatoes”—which provide a nutritious snack for waterfowl. Come spring, fresh foliage emerges once again. A beautiful and beneficial native for any wildlife friendly water garden, including smaller ponds and water containers. Water depth: 15-30cm. Ultimate height: 20-50cm (8in to 20in). Ultimate spread: 1m (3.2ft).
