Clematis ‘Jie’

Clematis ‘Jie’ is a compact, deciduous climber from the Boulevard® series, created by Raymond Evison and Poulsen Roser. Renowned for its striking red flowers and ability to bloom repeatedly, this plant is particularly well-suited for small gardens, patios, and container arrangements. Its growth habit features bushy, twining stems that enhance its ornamental appeal. The foliage consists of mid-green, deciduous leaves, which provide a lush backdrop for the bright red, star-shaped blooms. Each flower measures approximately 15 cm (6 in) in diameter and showcases brown anthers. The blooming period extends from late spring to early summer, with a second wave of flowers appearing in late summer to early autumn. While the plant is not particularly fragrant, its vibrant blooms and attractive seed heads in autumn contribute to its seasonal interest.Clematis ‘Jie’ thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers a sheltered position. It flourishes in moist, well-drained, fertile soil, with roots that benefit from a cooler environment. Regular watering is essential, especially during dry spells, while care should be taken to avoid waterlogging. Hardy in the UK, this climber can withstand temperatures as low as -20°C, making it a versatile choice for trellises, fences, and container planting, while also attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies. Pruning in late winter or early spring, as well as after the first bloom, encourages further flowering.
